Mey Post-SV Tübingen Withdrawing From Women’s Bundesliga

Mey Post-SV Tübingen have announced that they will be pulling out of the women’s Bundesliga next season.

In 2023, the team finished 8th overall having claimed 7th place in both 2021 and 2022. In that time, athletes like Pia Wolf, Alina Würth and Greta Groten have became consistent performers for the team. Going forward, however, they will have to look for a new outfit.

Tübingen thus becomes the second team to withdraw from next year’s first division. In a previous major shock the defending men’s and women’s champions, EJOT Team TV Buschhütten, disbanded at the end of the 2023 season.

Internal reasons were put forward as a primary reason for Tübingen’s departure from the competition. The team have also struggled with holding onto their top talent in recent years.

Two years ago, Katharina Möller left the team and joined Triathlon Team DSW Darmstadt. Prior to the 2023 season, Josephine Seerig also made the switch to Absolute Teamsport KTT 01. This season, KTT 01 finished two spots ahead of Tübingen in 6th.

The loss of the team will add to the sense of flux in the division. While it might not send shockwaves to the same degree as Buschhütten’s folding, it will certainly shake things up ahead of 2024.

Meanwhile, on a more positive note, it has been confirmed that the German Junior champion, Marielle Bouchti, will start for Team Berlin next season. Berlin took 2nd place overall in the women’s series in 2023 and Bouchti will add further depth to the squad.

The team has top talent like Nina Eim, Laura Lindemann and the World U23 champion, Selina Klamt, on its books. However, Eim and Lindemann raced sparingly in the Bundesliga, opening up space for the likes of Jule Behrens, a former World Junior champion, and other youngsters to race frequently.

Bouchti should therefore have plenty of chances to race in the competition next year. In the absence of Buschhütten, she could even potentially be a part of a championship-winning team at her first attempt.
